This is one of my favorite books right now. It is about a young girl and her experiences during the Civil War. It is really a coming of age as she realizes she has thoughts, feelings and opinions that may not be the same as those around her. Of course there is a little romance, and suspense as she plays an important role in the lives of those fighting the war. It is also filled with the emotions and experiences you can expect a 16 year old girl to go through at this time of her life, but even more so as she lives through this brutal and pivotal time of our nations history.
You can find Annie Between the States in the young adult section of your library or book store.
For me the message of the whole book is found on page 139-140. Annie begins to sympathise with and understand the servants at Hickory Heights. It's a great passage.
ReplyDeleteAs a lover of the arts I absolutely love what Annie says to Jaime on page 149, and I equally love Jamie's response on 150. What Annie says is so beautiful an practical. Maybe ther is truth in Socrates theory of ignorance and evile, but Jamie brings us back to reality, "There's all sorts of evil in the world."
ReplyDeleteI love to read- so this will be a fun way to beef up my summer reading. With the demands of small children, I only get in a page or two at a time - - so it may take me awhile , but I look forward to reading this book! I just ordered it on Amazon (it isn't at my chain of Libraries), and I will read it when I get it! Expect some comments from me in the future . . .
ReplyDeleteAfter a little over two weeks, I finally bought the book on Amazon today and I am so excited! I'm planning on posting some comments in a week or so after I've received and read it. I'm banking on having until the end of the month to finish it and participate in the online book club. : )
ReplyDeleteI will catch you on the next book. If I try to finish this one I'm sure I will get behind. though it does sound good!
